Cream Maine Coon Cat: The Crème De La Crème Of Felines

Cats and desserts – what other pleasures of life could you ask for!? Cats are mysterious and guarded, more gracious that Audrey Hepburn herself, and spend most of the day adored by everyone who dares come close to them. And, turns out you can’t go bigger, better, and more fabulous than a cream Maine Coon cat!

Come on, we’re talking about a cat that embodies everything you ever wanted from whoever comes into your home. She’s affectionate enough to meow your ears off the moment she sees you enter the room.

She’s loving enough to rub her little face against your legs whenever she crosses paths with you. Not to mention she’s a fan of “making muffins” while looking like the most delicious dessert herself!

We’re not saying you should ditch everything and head off to the nearest breeder to get yourself a cream Coon (unless you’re down!?) But these frisky felines deserve your attention and they’re ready to snatch your heart before you can even utter, “Not sure I can afford a cat that costs as much as a downpayment on a brand new car!”

Sure, cream Coons might not be for everyone’s budget.

But who’s to say you won’t be able to get your hands on one through an adoption agency or a friend who “happens to have one of those cream Coon kittens lying around, doing nothing?” Who’s to say you won’t discover approximately $1,200 to $2,000 in your pocket (like you sometimes do)?

Whatever the case might be, you should take a look at some of the most riveting facts about cream Maine Coons before you make up your mind. Oh, and, you might want to get yourself some dessert while you’re reading – for the sake of the ambiance, of course!

Colors and patterns: What do we mean when we say cream Maine Coon?

Maine Coons are absolutely adorable, affectionate, and cuddly! And they are humongous. We’re saying that with the most positive connotations you can think of. We’re not here to shame a lady for her weight!

They are fluffy and known for their softest fur and busiest of tails. Oh, they sound like a dream!

And, in the event weren’t already searching for the nearest breeder, Maine Coons can sport pretty much every color of the rainbow – white, black, ebony, red, orange, blue, gray, cream, beige, tan, chocolate, brown, and sable.

Oh and they can make every pattern you can think of work for them (regardless of what Anna Wintour might have to say about that!)

So what does a cream Maine Coon look like? “She doesn’t look like a snack, she looks like a whole meal!” Somebody must have sung that at some point because there’s no way of explaining why that popped into my mind right now.

Okay, even though they weren’t describing a cream Coon, they might have as well.

A cream Maine Coon’s pretty much the diluted version of a red Maine Coon. And, if you weren’t affected enough by her beauty, that cozy, cream shade accompanies other colors and patterns to create the most mysterious-looking Coons you’ve ever dreamed of.

Take a look, why don’t you!?

1. Solid

Solid color cream Coons don’t seem to appreciate patterns. They prefer the clean (some would say basic) appearance of pretty much only one shade of cream. While there’s only one shade of cream on one cat, that’s not to say cream can’t be lighter or darker.

Shaded cream, shell cream, and cream smoke are three other shades of cream a Coon can have when she’s sporting a solid color coat. Each of these shades looks similar but for different variations and undercoats – while keeping that clean, Instagram-influencer beige appearance.

2. Tabby

Tabby has to be one of the most popular patterns of cream Maine Coons (or otherwise). And, tabby Coon looks pretty much like that one kitty you keep crossing paths with whenever you go to Target – stripes, spots, and swirls combined with one or more shades of cream.

And, tabby (too) comes in different color combinations such as cream tabby, cream silver tabby, blue pathed tabby, silver patched tabby, and blue-silver patched tabby. Now, you don’t have to memorize these color combinations – simply remember each of them has a stunning (and unique) appearance.

3. Bicolor

Oh, bicolor Coons are some of my personal favorites – one solid color coat with white markings. And a similar type, parti-color Coons, have two color coats with white markings.

Blue cream, shell blue-cream, shaded blue cream, blue-cream smoke, cream and white, shell cream and white, shaded cream and white, and cream smoke and white are every color combination you can find. A lot, but not enough when you’re a fashionista looking to match your Coon to your Hermès bag of choice!

4. Calico

Calico Coons have at least three colors making them appear more fashionable than they are! While these colors are typically black, white, and red, we can’t forget about those genes responsible for dilute shades. Cream calico Coons are pretty much that – blue, white, and cream, which are dilute shades of black, white, and red.

Blue-cream and white, shell blue-cream and white, shaded blue-cream and white, blue-cream smoke and white, dilute calico, shell dilute calico, shaded dilute calico, and dilute calico smoke are color combinations and patterns to keep an eye out for. But we know they’re adorable whatever shade they are!

Characteristics: What to expect when you get a cream Maine Coon?

Enough talk about color combinations and patterns! Cream Maine Coons are the seal of the deal regardless of what they look like. And, we’re here to show you that. Not only are these beauties some of the most affectionate breeds out there, but a veil of mystery surrounds them.

What do we mean by that!? Turns out nobody really knows where Maine Coons came from. And that might have played a part in the planetary popularity they acquired over time. But there are theories suggesting where the first Coon might have first appeared and snatched everyone’s hearts.

Now, bear with me. The first theory suggests that Maine Coons might have been a cross between raccoons and cats. Sure, that would explain the “Coon” part of the name and the fluffy hindquarters. But these two couldn’t have been a match under any circumstances.

On the other hand, we’re not sure about Marie Antoinette and her Turkish Angora cats either! Apparently, one theory suggests that Marie Antoinette tried to escape France and boarded her beautiful beasts on a boat that was supposed to take her away. She never made the boat, but that didn’t stop her cats from reaching Maine and mating right there and then.

Oh, and, we can’t forget about Charles Coon and the adorable “Coon’s kittens, right?

He was one of the kitty worshipers that thought boarding a bunch of cats on a boat was a great idea. He sailed the coast of New England with a bunch of fluffy companions who decided to mate and create a new breed of cats. How convenient!?

Whatever the mystery behind these fluffers’ origins, here’s a rundown of some of the most prominent cream Maine Coon characteristics!

1. Appearance

One thing you’re going to notice about a cream Maine Coon right off the bat has to be the grandeur! Coons are massive cats with measurements of 10 to 16 inches in height and 8 to 10 pounds in weight – not to mention the soft and silky fluff that covers each of those inches.

And, to address the elephant in the room, we have to discuss the color of that fluff. We’ve dabbled (a little bit) with the fact that cream Maine Coons aren’t really cream. They’re red, but a diluted shade of red that occurs when both parents possess the gene that’s responsible for watering down those shades.

Other than that, we can agree that beauty’s not something a cream Maine Coon lacks. With almond-shaped eyes, perked-up ears topped with whispy tufts of hair, and bushy tails, they make for the purrfect PetSmart kitty supermodels!

2. Purrsonality

Oh, you thought nothing could be bigger than a grown Maine Coon’s fluff!? That’s right, these beautiful beasts have an even bigger purrsonality that’s bound to make you utter “You’re coming home with me!” every time you hang out with them.

Now, the color doesn’t have anything to do with the personality. So, cream (and other) Maine Coons are affectionate, patient, and a pleasure to be around.

They love hanging out with humans, playing with little humans and other cats (even dogs), and lounging on the sofa while you’re watching another episode of Bridgerton. And, they absolutely adore keeping you company whenever you go (that means sleeping outside your door, too).

Plus, they’re pretty darn clever. You can teach them to walk on a leash and play fetch. You can even teach them to offer you a paw when you say the right command. They’re the purrfect family pet, aren’t they!?

3. Care

Don’t worry, cream Maine Coons might be fashionistas, but they don’t need nearly as much grooming as you might think. We’re kidding, they need grooming and brushing every single day – have you seen that fluff!?

They might not need to see your hairdresser for that cream color (that’s au natural). But, they do need you to give them a wash and blowout now and then.

Trust me, you don’t want her fluff to become a greasy, stringy, tangled, and matted mess! Also, ensure you provide your cream Coon with proper nutrition, physical activity, and regular veterinarian checkups.

Oh, the two of you are going to do great as long as you make sure you’re doing everything you can to keep her happy and healthy!

4. Health

While a cat’s health does depend on a bunch of factors, Maine Coons are hearty and healthy for the most part. And, the cream color doesn’t have anything to do with that! Coons can suffer from diseases other cats have problems with, such as kidney disease, heart disease, and dental disease.

But, we can’t overlook the fact that Coons are genetically predisposed to battle health niggles such as hip dysplasia, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), or arthritis.

As a matter of fact, they might even be susceptible to obesity, considering their size. But. that can easily be prevented with a proper diet and exercise.

Other than that, Coons are as healthy as they can be! Muster up the courage and contact that breeder whose number you’ve been staring at every night before sleep. Oh, your cream Maine Coon’s waiting for you, and she couldn’t be happier to meet you!
