The weather in New York and the surrounding areas can be very cruel at times. Every winter, temperatures tend to drop below the freezing point, which makes life extremely difficult for local citizens.

Because, let’s face it, there are only a couple of few who truly enjoy the winter and everything these months bring. Sure, it is fine when you are having fun indulging in winter sports somewhere on the mountain. But when you have to go to work, run your errands, or do basically anything – it is barely fun.

Now imagine being a cat (especially a stray one) and having to deal with the winter cold with no warm home to go to. Sounds pretty awful, right? Well, unfortunately, that’s the reality for many stray fluffs in the world, including Chunk Chunk, the main purrtagonist of our today’s story.

While working from home one snowy day, Nathaniel from Brooklyn noticed a very strange occurrence outside his apartment window. Upon approaching the window, he noticed Chunk Chunk pawing at the glass, as though she was knocking to be let inside.

It didn’t take long for Nathaniel to recognize the cat, as Chunk Chunk was a well-known member of their local stray cat colony. She often hung around their block, meowing a friendly, “Hello neighbors!” – as cats often do – every time they passed him by.

The first time Nathaniel and his fiancée Renee met Chunk Chunk was around a year ago, again during another freezing cold winter day. The cat had appeared on their window with – believe it or not – two adorable kittens.

Chunk Chunk had left her kittens there and quickly escaped, as though she knew she was supposed to leave her babies in the hands of two very trusty humans.

But a year later she had found her way back to them, only this time asking for a different kind of favor.

Since he obviously knew Chunk Chunk was not having the time of her life, Nathaniel figured he had to do something to help the poor kitty.

Despite being an avid dog person who knew nothing about the feline world (except that they were small and sassy) Nathaniel took Chunk Chunk in. After all, he could not just leave the shivering cat out in the freezing cold temperatures.

Besides, he knew his fiancé Renee, a devoted cat person who occasionally volunteered in a local cat shelter, will know what to do once she comes back home.

Nathaniel later shared that he had always been pretty hesitant when it came to bringing stray cats into his home. But out of love for Renee, he let Chunk Chunk in, knowing very well that that’s both the right thing to do and something that will make his fiancée very pleased.

So, after taking a short video of her pawing at his window, he opened the door and waited for her to enter.

He said Chunk Chunk was very timid at first. And since they had a dog in their apartment, Nathaniel realized that the best thing would be to set up a nice and comfortable place for Chunk Chunk in the bathroom, where the dog won’t be able to reach and scare her.

He placed a couple of towels on the tile floor and did his best to make a cozy nook for Chunk Chunk to lie in. To his surprise, the cat accepted his kind offer and set herself right on her new and improvised bed. Sure, it wasn’t much, but it was still better than the cold concrete floor outside.

When Renee got home, she was very pleasantly surprised to see Chunk Chunk chilling in her bathroom. She said Chunk Chunk was always a very friendly kitty who genuinely enjoyed being petted by people, offering them a gentle purr each time as her own little, “Thank you.”

So, as you can probably guess, there was no question about it: the couple was about to adopt that kitty.

Nathaniel and Renee didn’t hesitate a second and took Chunk Chunk to the vet at the first opportunity. The vet determined that the cat was thankfully very healthy and that she apparently loved to be brushed.

This strange discovery came as no surprise since, being a community cat, she had probably never been properly brushed before. But luckily for her, she was now part of a very good family who would brush regularly and give her all the love in the world.

Chunk Chunk even befriended their dog Hugo after a couple of days. Both of them were a bit reserved at first, but they became best friends in no time.

Chunk Chunk even made it her mission to steal his bed, but Hugo doesn’t really mind. After all, isn’t that something cats do, anyway? It’s their nature, so Chunk Chunk should be no exception.

It’s miraculous how much good we can all do for each other, and how something that’s seemingly insignificant to us can mean a whole world and be life-saving for someone.

Take this story as an example. Chunk Chunk was freezing cold outside and potentially even hungry. So she decided to paw at a window of people she knew. She probably thought that since they had helped her once before, they’ll do it again.

Maybe she expected to be fed and offered a warm place to say for the night. But she actually got much more!

Little did she know that by pawing at their window she was actually pawing at her future furrever home.

Life is truly strange, isn’t it? But that’s the beauty of it after all.

Having a spoiled cat is not reserved only for a couple of “special” people. Whether you want it or not, there will come a day when you’ll simply have to spoil your kitty.

That’s because a spoiled feline means a happy feline. And if you don’t want your fluff to be happy, then what’s the point of having her as your life companion at all?

So, whether you have already spoiled her, or you’re on the way to doing it, take a look at these 15 adorable pictures some owners shared online of their spoiled little furballs. I assure you will love them!

1. “What do you mean you need your laptop for working? This is my fav heating spot!”

Source: Shutterstock

Every cat parent knows how much cats love to put their little paws on everything their hoomans are doing. And that includes laptops, too!

I cannot tell you how many times have I returned from the bathroom only to find my fluffball sitting on top of my laptop. Like, what’s that all about, Miss?

Regardless, we love them for their weird and adorable location choices, and we simply have to let them do their own thing, right?

This owner also had to let his kitty sit on the keyboard of his laptop. He needed a break from work, anyway.

2. “Oh, you put your clean clothes in your suitcase? Well, let me pack some cat hair for you real quick, in case of an emergency.”

Source: Shutterstock

For whatever reason, our feline friends love to sit on top of a pile of clean laundry, or get cozy and comfy right in the middle of the cleaned and ironed clothes we packed in our suitcases.

We may never understand why, but we accept that that’s just the way they are!

Maybe they’re just being considerate. Look at this kitty, for example. Perhaps she just wants her human to have a piece of her on his trip.

3. “Yes, yes, your clean towels are my favorite spot. Why do you ask?”

Source: Shutterstock

Similar thing with this little fella. There’s a pile of freshly cleaned and perfectly folded white towels, and this fluff decided to rest right in the middle of them.

Instead of trying to get him off, their owner first took a couple of Instagram-worthy pictures. Pretty spoiled, if you ask me. But, rightfully so!

4. “Do you mind if I watch you do your thing from up here? No? Good!”

Source: Shutterstock

We all know that felines love to follow their owners everywhere, even to the bathroom. They love to watch them brushing their teeth, taking a shower, or – as it appears in this case – taking a seat on the porcelain throne.

Can we blame them really? It’s not like sometimes we also don’t love to stick our noses in other people’s business, too.

5. “Yes, we have an entire wall for our cat trees and cat shelves. Is that a problem?”

Source: Shutterstock

These two kitties are living the dream! Their owners have dedicated an entire wall in their living room solely for their cat trees and cat shelves. So they could climb all they want!

We love that for them! You go, kitties!

6. “In this house, I am in charge of the remote controller!”

Source: Shutterstock

My skeptical brain cannot help but think this has been staged. However, deep down, I can imagine any feline getting angry if you take away the thing she claimed as her possession. Like this kitty and her remote controller.

Her owners are probably sitting quietly nearby waiting for her to get tired and find another occupation.

Meanwhile, this kitty’s in charge!

7. “Yes, I do in fact have breakfast in bed. Jealous much?”

Source: Shutterstock

Okay, this is just the next level of being spoiled. Look at her! She has what seems to be the comfiest pillow on the planet, a soft blanket, and a bowl of cat food. Wow! Don’t know about you, but I’m definitely jealous.

8. “Of course, I sleep right beside my mom and dad. But it’s them who are spoiled. They are the ones sleeping with an adorable fluff, not me.”

Source: Shutterstock

Look at this furry little boss. She shamelessly exploits all her adorable privileges, like sleeping right beside both of her parents. We fully support! Who needs a cat bed anyway, right?

9. “Yes, I have my own cat house. What, your kitty doesn’t? Pawthetic!”

Source: Shutterstock

Do we even need to say anything about this one? I think not! A house within a house – someone’s being spoiled…

10. “My mom and I always have a spa day together. And I love it!”

Source: Shutterstock

This one reminded me of that viral TikTok video of a woman doing her skincare routine with her cat. I don’t understand why, but apparently, cats are crazy about pamper routines and spa days.

11. “My favorite pastime activity is keeping an eye on my mom’s work. She’s not very good…”

Source: Shutterstock

Another cat with a laptop. Look at her being all invested in something she probably doesn’t even understand, but simply has to see with her mesmerizing feline eyes.

12. “There’s no question about it: I am the king of this household!”

Source: Shutterstock

Look at His Royal Highness. All bow down to him and his lovely crown, immediately!

13. “What do you mean I am supposed to walk on my own in the rain? What am I, a peasant stray?”

Source: Shutterstock

If being spoiled had to be a picture, it would definitely be this one. It’s a picture of a cat, in a pet stroller, with a mesh layer on top, so she doesn’t get rain on her luscious fur.

14. “My mom always invites me to her tea parties, and I am allowed to take a sip from her teacup, of course.”

Source: Shutterstock

If you ask me, a cat on a table full of delicious food and beverages is one very spoiled kitty. You cannot convince me otherwise.

15. ”Yes, I LOVE to be prompted up on my hooman’s shoulder. That’s completely normal!”

Source: Shutterstock

Who needs a cat tree when you can climb on top of your mom, right?

Now, mailpeople have one of the best careers ever because they’re greeted by puppies, kitties, and other crawling creatures on a regular. Some mailpeople even carry treats with them to appease the array of animals that come with the territory.

Oh and, most mailpeople say that they adore the attention they get from animals, but they don’t appreciate the few and far-between aggressive greetings from dogs. Man’s best friends seem to not appreciate the honest work that the mailpeople do and they don’t seem to shy away from expressing those negative emotions.

Moreover, dog people defend the odd behavior because dogs often defend their territory and protect their owners by attacking what they deem as a threat. Cat people, on the other hand, don’t seem to suffer from the same problem considering that we don’t hear stories of cats scratching mailpeople that often.

Cats are protective and possessive, too (even more than dogs). However, cats aren’t threatened by letters and bills because they know they’re not the ones paying for them. And no, we’re not telling you these things because we’re advocating that cats are better than dogs (even though they are, right?)

We’re telling you these things because we’re bringing you a story of an unlikely friendship that blossomed between a mailman named Mike McEuen and an elderly cat named Bijou.

While Mike, who works around the area of McKinleyville, California, adores all animals he encounters on the route, he developed a soft spot for Bijou for a million reasons.

We’re pretty sure that Mike was taken aback by Bijou’s scruffy, grubby appearance, her milky eye and crooked tail, and her purrsonality. Nevertheless, he gave her a chance to show what a sweetheart she can be – and, he hasn’t regretted that decision one bit.

When Mike started working around the area of McKinleyville, California, he encountered numerous dogs that would come running down the street the moment they would hear the sound of Mike’s truck.

Some dogs were over the moon to greet Mike, take the treat he brought them, and wag away when he needed to move on. Other dogs weren’t as happy and would come running down the street for different reasons.

Mike’s obsessed with anything fluffy and friendly which happens to be the reason why he never complained about having to make detours and snuggle stops along the road. But, Mike confessed that Bijou was the only cat that would come meow “Hello!” whenever he was around the area where she resided.

Bijou and Mike’s friendship stood the test of time considering they’ve been friends for four years. Mike met Bijou when he started a new route and he encountered a scruffy, grubby cat with a milky eye and a crooked tail.

Bijou had a reputation among mailpeople as a sweetheart which reassured Mike considering he had been slightly surprised by her appearance.

Mike confessed that he viewed her as a super old, super sweet cat that was rough around the edges, but he warmed up to her when one of the other mailmen mentioned that Bijou was a highlight of everyone’s week. And, Bijou became the highlight of Mike’s week, too.

Mike and Bijou saw each other once a week because Mike worked five different routes at the time. But, Bijou made sure to greet Mike whenever he stopped by. She would wander out of her house, approach the mailbox, and wait for Mike to come out of the truck to give her cuddles and belly rubs.

She would rub against Mike’s feet and headbutt Mike’s back. She was never shy, but she became even more demanding as the years went by. She would sneak past Mike and enter Mike’s truck. She would explore the environment while waiting for Mike to come back to embrace her.

Credit: The Dodo

She would even go as far as to get comfy on Mike’s seat and remain there for quite some time – she wouldn’t leave unless she was given enough attention and affection. Mike and Bijou because super, super close and she didn’t shy away from throwing a few tantrums to get what she wants.

Mike confessed that he quickly figured out he couldn’t shoo Bijou away when he needed to return to work. Bijou expected her snuggles and cuddles and would go back to her house only when she was provided with what she came for.

But Mike didn’t mind her straightforwardness at all. He made sure to show Bijou how much he appreciates the time she spends greeting him and making him happier than he ever was. He promised to continue greeting Bijou for years and years to come.

With that out of the way, Bijou and Mike’s friendship speaks of the remarkable connections mailpeople have with animals that come out to greet them. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Bijou and Mike keep making each other’s days better forever.

A cat adopting and taking care of two baby squirrels? No, this is not a fairy tale, but a story of a wonderful kitty called Mimi!

Wait, aren’t cats known for chasing around small animals and rodents? Yes, they are, but Mimi is here to show the other side of our feline friends that defeats all the stereotypes. Cats are often seen as cold and not especially caring, but Mimi took it upon herself to prove the haters wrong.

Mimi’s mom, Mary Cummins of Animal Advocates, decided to share with the world the wonderful story about the time her furbaby saved two baby squirrels. When Mimi decided to play outside that day, she had no idea she’ll be coming back home as a mom.

According to Mary, she and Mimi used to live in a house with a fully enclosed yard and eight-foot fences. One day, Mimi went outside through her cat door. When she came back, Mary was shocked to see a baby squirrel with her.

Mimi’s brother Boots tried to get the baby from her, just like any other cat probably would. What Mary saw then, left her speechless. Mimi fought Boots and protected her baby as if she was her real mother! How incredible is that?

Mary recalls that Mimi went outside again, as she had probably heard another baby squirrel calling for help. In no time, she brought the second baby in and put them both next to her in her cat bed. From that moment, their new lives began, and they were filled with the love and attention they were getting from their new mom.

Mimi spent her days taking care of her new babies, never leaving their side. She was their new mom, and she took her role very seriously! They’ve found safety in her, and she gave her all to protect them and give them the love they deserve.

While all of that was happening, Mary found a rehabilitator who decided to take both babies and provide them with a safe home. When they were old enough to take care of themselves, the squirrels were released back into the wild.

Just like that, Mimi saved these two babies and changed their lives forever. But, they weren’t the only ones whose lives Mimi changed that day. Her story and devotion inspired Mary, too.

According to Cummins, it was this heartwarming act of pure kindness and love that made her interested in helping animals in need. Today, Mary is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, and she can thank her beautiful Mimi for guiding her on that path.

Since then, Mary has saved thousands of lives of animals who needed her the most. She has her own organization, that focuses on bats, mice, squirrels, raccoons, voles, skunks, and more. Mimi never hesitates to help her mom, and you can often see her cuddling with the bunnies that Mary saved.

It turns out, Mimi’s urge to save the baby squirrels wasn’t a one-time thing! She loves all kinds of animals and has no problem spending time with them. She found a new way to help her fury friends: her loving cuddles. Mimi helps them stay calm and gives them space to relax, feeling her soft purrs.

It seems like both Mary and her little helper have discovered a new side of themselves. They had no idea that their lives would change that day when Mimi decided to save two baby squirrels. Mimi’s little act of kindness helped thousands of animals in the years to come!

This beautiful story inspires people all over the world, who now see the importance of helping others in need. More often than not, your act of kindness can change more lives than you could ever imagine, and Mimi’s story is beautiful proof of that.

What Mimi and Mary learned that day is pretty simple: you should always lend a helping hand, no matter who needs it. Whether it’s a squirrel, a rat, or another kitten, it won’t take much to change their lives forever. And, who knows, they might change yours, too!

So, next time you see a lost bunny or any other kind of wildlife, don’t ignore them. You might be their only hope, and the universe will always find a way to pay you back for having an open and kind heart. You might discover a side of you that you never thought you had, and you end up saving more lives than you could count.

We’re always sorry to hear about a cat that couldn’t find her forever family. But, what if the shelter becomes her home? Every fluff deserves to spend a life filled with love, laughter, and beautiful memories – no matter where they are.

The story of Luna, a 13-year-old cat, proves it. When she was only two years old, she and a dozen of her feline friends were given to the local shelters after their human passed away. Although other fluffs managed to find their new furrever families, Luna wasn’t so lucky.

This beautiful black kitty has been in a shelter for over 11 years. At first, she shied away from every human contact. She was completely feral for years, but the kind people who work at the Furry Friends Animal Shelter never gave up on her.

Year after year, Luna was getting a bit more comfortable with her new home. Although she’s come a long way from dodging every human touch, the beautiful fluff still needs some special care. Once she learns she can trust you, Luna is a wonderful friend, but she still hates being picked up.

Not all fur babies love to be carried around, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Understanding that our feline friends have boundaries, too, is the first step in creating a safe environment for them. We should always respect them, no matter how hard it may be to resist cuddling your fluff sometimes…

Because she’s spent so many years at the shelter, Luna developed a strong bond with other kitties. Although she’s the smallest fluff at the sanctuary, she’s usually the older sister all cats turn to when they need some love and comfort.

Source: Reddit

Today, it’s clear that Luna gets along with cats a lot better than humans. She’s a lot more comfortable around her furry buddies, and truly enjoys spending time with them. One volunteer at the shelter shared a memory of when Luna first brushed against her leg, after two months of volunteering there.

She immediately fell in love with the fluff, and it seems that Luna liked her, too. Whenever she wanted some love, she’d come up to the volunteer to ask for some cuddles. Luna quickly became her favorite cat at the shelter, but the girl decided not to take her home, no matter how hard her heart wanted it.

The shelter became Luna’s home, and she loved spending time with her friends. It seemed like she really understood what other fluffs were going through, and she always found a way to comfort them.

She loved to hang out with her group of feline buddies, and the volunteer who fell in love with her couldn’t take that away from Luna. Her favorite fluff had already lost a home once, and she wouldn’t let her go through the same tragedy again.

Her life at the shelter isn’t too bad, either. There’s plenty of room for her to roam around, she’s got her favorite spots when she wants to bask in the sun and, most importantly, she’s got a family she can count on. She’s always there for her lovely feline friends, and she’s got volunteers who are always waiting for her to come for some love and cuddles, too.

Source: Reddit

People love to say that home is where your heart is, and Luna’s heart is at the Furry Friends Animal Shelter. Although it’s a beautiful thing to see kitties find human families, Luna shows us that it’s your heart that chooses a home for you, after all.

We don’t believe Luna would like it any other way, even if there was a family out there who was ready to give her a comfy home filled with love. Her feline friends showed her that they can love her just the same, and she showed them a side that she wouldn’t show anyone else.

Her loving and caring nature got her a wonderful family she’ll spend her life with, and we couldn’t be happier for her. Although it might not be what the volunteers at the shelter hoped for at first, they quickly realized it was exactly what Luna needed.

Whatever life throws at you, there will always be people (or cats) who will help you get through it – and Luna knows that! When you feel hopeless, remember her story. You’ll find love in the most unexpected places, and it will change your life forever.

Sometimes when you get married or start living with your partner, the natural turn of events is to expand your little family of two. Some people chose to have a child, some opt for adoption, while others decide to take it slow and first get a furry child, a.k.a. a pet.

What kind of pet they opt for depends entirely on their preferences. As does the number of pets. Some end up being overwhelmed by just one, while others don’t mind the company of multiple pets.

Either way, having and caring for a pet can be very beneficial. It can teach you a lot about yourself and the level of responsibility you’re ready to take, and it can serve as a sort of trial period for when (and if ever) you decide to have a little human of your own.

It can also bring you closer to your partner or at least help you determine where you two stand and what kind of relationship you have. It’s like a “make it or break it” experiment.

One couple from Virginia knew this and felt they are finally at that point in their relationship when they should bring some novelty into their lives. And not any kind of novelty, no. Rather, the novelty in the shape of a four-legged furry feline.

In 2017, Elliot and Nathanial Green heard from a close friend that there is an event called “Free Cat Friday” at the Lynchburg Humane Society. They decided it’s definitely worth checking it out since they have been thinking about adopting a cat for a long time.

Their initial plan was to adopt a Siamese kitten. They were always enchanted by this breed and desperately wanted this slender, dramatic feline with blue, almond-shaped eyes to fill their lives with her famous distinctive personality.

However, by the time they got there, all of the Siamese kittens have already been taken.

Elliot and Nathanial were at first upset and wanted to call it quits, and go home without a fluff in their embrace. But, an odd gut feeling told them to stick around and take a look at other kittens available.

A shelter worker noticed them wandering around, looking at different cats and appearing very confused and in desperate need of help. She approached them and offered to help them, telling them she can show them her favorite cats.

Elliot and Nathanial agreed and let her walk them around. She presented them with various kittens, who were all very adorable, but none of them felt like “the one.”

That odd feeling kicked in once again, telling them that there might be something else at the shelter. It was as though someone there was meant to be adopted by them and they couldn’t choose just any cat.

The lady then led them to a medical wing where she showed them a little kitty who was in the middle of a head cold recovery. It was a beautiful Napoleon cat, very small but with beautiful black and gray fluff, named Merlin.

The couple loved the cat and thought how adorable he was. However, they felt a tad bit reserved because the poor thing was blind.

Elliot was afraid they would not be able to provide him with the love and attention he deserves. He said how it would be hard to take care of Merlin due to him being a full-time student and working two jobs.

At that time, Merlin was a two-year-old cat and had already dealt with several rejections. In the past, many people would approach him, mesmerized by his beauty, but would soon back away, not wanting to adopt the cat that required that much attention.

So, Merlin knew this might be his last chance. With the mindset, “It’s now or never!” he went straight to Elliot, even though he couldn’t see him. He completely relied on his other senses and his intuition and came close to him.

First, he started sniffing him and rubbing against his legs. But soon enough, he had found himself in Elliot’s embrace, curled up in his arms.

At that moment, both Elliot and Nathanial realized they have found the one.

Credit: @merlin.griffith

They took Merlin home, got him everything he needed, and let him get used to his new space. Merlin had some troubles here and there, but he soon got a hold of this new space that became his forever home, and he learned how to navigate around.

Elliot and Nathanial even made him his own Instagram account which today has more than 76. 000 followers. Many people fell in love with Merlin’s story and his uniqueness, and with the benevolence of this amazing couple.

Let this wonderful story be a motivation and encouragement to all those who hesitate to adopt a special need animal. It’s true, that experience will be ten times harder, but the love received will be ten times more rewarding.

Sometimes, our human actions make it evident that we do not deserve cats. Or any animal, for that matter. We give ourselves the right to be so cruel to them, justifying it with some of our illogical excuses.

We truly do not deserve this chance we have been given of sharing planet Earth with such amazing creatures like animals. For whatever reason, someone somewhere gave us all the power and freedom to do as we please, probably not considering how drastically that can backfire.

We are not doing right by animals. It is true. Sure, there are many good people who do benevolent things and sincerely love animals, but as long as there are those who do bad stuff, there won’t be peace.

How can this world ever be a good place for everyone to live in when we know there are people who only care for animals when it suits their selfish needs? When it’s cool to have a kitty, they get one, but once it becomes inconvenient and a “chore,” the cat ends up on the street.

Taking care of any kind of animal is serious and demanding work, and everyone should think about the responsibility of it before proceeding with getting one.

It’s important to be true to yourself and admit if there is even the slightest reason why you might be opposed to getting a pet.

This one family from North Carolina didn’t really think it through before they got Toby, a beautiful orange Maine Coon mix.

At first, when Toby was younger and smaller, they probably enjoyed his company. Being an adorable and cuddly feline, Toby could have easily been their main attraction.

However, over time, as Toby got older, his overall health got worse. He suffered from a certain upper respiratory infection and had FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). It was probably because of his bad condition that the family decided they no longer want to deal with him.

First of all, you do not choose Maine Coon or Maine Coon mix and expect everything to be easy peasy. And second of all, you do not get pets just for fun and happy times. Once you decide to become a pet parent, you are promising to love and care for them for better or for worse.

Some people don’t understand that and when they do encounter obstacles in their pet-parent experience, they seek an easy way out. And this is precisely what this family attempted to do.

One day, the family decided they didn’t want to take care of Toby anymore, so they gave him off to some people. However, Toby, being a very intelligent and stubborn tomcat, ran away, traveled 12 miles, and managed to return to his previous home.

He was probably excited to find them and happy to see them again. Unfortunately, his owners did not share the same enthusiasm.

They were adamant about getting rid of him, so they decided to call the county shelter and schedule euthanization.

However, when the people at the shelter determined there was no need to euthanize Toby as there was nothing fatally wrong with him, they decided to call the SPCA of Wake County in Raleigh, North Carolina, and ask them for help.

People from SPCA didn’t think twice about taking Toby. They struggled to understand why would someone request their pet to be put down if there is nothing seriously wrong with him. They immediately suspected it was because of FIV.

Similarly to HIV, this is a very marginalized feline condition. Other than weakening the immune system and making the cat more prone to illnesses, it has no other, detrimental consequences. With proper care, a cat with FIV can live a healthy, happy, and long life.

Because Toby had no serious health conditions and was generally a healthy kitty, he did not spend too much time in the shelter. After a couple of days, his dashing looks and friendly and affectionate personality ensured that he found a new home.

He was adopted by Michelle Puckett, a local woman who immediately fell in love with Toby. She was beyond touched by his story and the lack of love he received, and she made it her life mission to ensure her home is truly Toby’s “forever home.”

Toby’s new family gave him everything he deserves. They are showering him with love and affection every day, making sure he lacks nothing!

They also made him his own Instagram page, @a.cat.named.toby, where they are sharing every single moment of his life with people who actually adore cats.

Let this be a reminder to everyone: if you ever find, for whatever reason, that you can no longer be a decent cat parent to your feline, please don’t seek an easy way out. Contact your local shelter, because they will be happy to help both you and your cat.

Following the tragic 7.8 and 7.7 magnitude earthquakes that shook Turkey and Syria, the search teams have been going above and beyond to rescue the victims.

For days and days after the earthquake, the rescue teams have been trying to uncover men, women, and children that were buried under the rubble – and, they’ve been offering a helping hand to the animals, too.

Now, the earthquakes that affected these areas have caused unthinkable and unspeakable damage. Sadly, more than 44,000 people were confirmed dead around the areas of south-eastern Turkey and northern Syria after the first earthquake and the numerous aftershocks that occurred on 6 February.

For the people of Turkey and Syria, the earthquakes came as a surprise considering the fact that the countries haven’t experienced any considerable earthquakes for more than 200 years.

Following the earthquakes, the entire world united to gather search and rescue teams, uncover the victims from under the rubble, and provide the survivors with adequate shelter, food, water, and other supplies.

Members of the Mardin Fire Department were among the search and rescue teams who managed to rescue numerous survivors, even after weeks have passed from the moment the natural disaster occurred.

We were fortunate enough to receive stories and stories of people getting out alive from under the broken bricks, scree, and brash – from the teenager that was rescued 10 days after the earthquake and the sister that protected her brother by holding a concrete block with her bare hands to a newborn that was still tied to her mother with an umbilical cord when she was rescued.

Among the heartwarming (and heartbreaking) stories of people getting rescued from under the wrecks of their homes, there are a few stories of animals receiving the same unconditional, unreserved, and unbelievably humane treatment.

Ali Cakas, one of the members of the Mardin Fire Department, uncovered a cat that was trapped under a collapsed building in Turkey’s district Define.

Now, the poor cat has been trapped under the rubble for 9 days before Ali managed to get to him and rescue him. Nobody expected him to survive, but he took everyone by surprise when he hopped on Ali’s shoulders, seemingly unscathed, to show his gratitude.

Rather than running away (which most cats that were rescued did), he wanted to show Ali how happy he was that he rescued him by rubbing his face on Ali’s cheeks and sniffing around Ali’s beard. After that, he remained cuddled up against Ali’s face.

He refused to leave even though the rest of the team was waiting on Ali to continue searching for the victims. Whether he was scared of getting left behind, whether he was drawn to Ali’s warmth and affection, he didn’t want to get off Ali’s shoulder and he didn’t want to stop showering Ali with sniffs, licks, and headbutts.

How do we know all that? Well, the advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko took to Twitter to share the heartwarming encounter with the rest of the world.

Anton posted a video of Ali sharing a moment with the furry friend after getting him out from under the rubble and wrote “A cat was saved from under the rubble in Turkey. It now refuses to leave its rescuer’s side.” Naturally, the video quickly went viral and amassed more than 12.4 million views.

After viewing the video, the world couldn’t get over the gratitude that the cat was showing toward Ali and the calm, collected demeanor that Ali was showing toward the cat. At the end of the day, the cat didn’t want to leave Ali and he continued following the Mardin Fire Department around.

Ali decided to adopt him and name him Enkaz (which roughly translates to Rubble).

Anton took to Twitter once more and shared a photo of Enkaz snuggled up next to Ali, and wrote “I posted yesterday about a cat saved from the rubble in Turkey who refused to leave his rescuer’s side. The rescuer’s name is Ali Cakas and he adopted the cat, naming him Enkaz – “rubble” in Turkish. May they have a happy life together!”

Enkaz became a protégé, a mascot of the Mardin Fire Department, and continued showing gratitude toward Ali. As for the rest of the world, Enkaz became a sign of hope.

After all, the world couldn’t fathom the fact that Enkaz came out of the rubble unscathed after 9 days, and that the furry friend showed that much gratitude, devotion, and loyalty toward Ali and the Mardin Fire Department. Ali and Enkaz, we wish you a happy and healthy life together!

Growing up with an annoying brother who continues to scoff down your Meow Mix before you or an aggravating sister who keeps on snatching your mom’s attention and affection sounds great, right?

We’re kidding, we’re kidding. But, we’re not kidding about the prospects of needing someone to meow with during the primary weeks of kittenhood.

Kittens need other kittens to grow up with for a million reasons! Right off the bat, we’re pretty sure that the entire “you can separate kittens from their mother and their littermates as soon as they’re weaned off” argument is one of the most common misconceptions about kittens.

Kittens are similar to human babies because they rely on their mother and their littermates to develop their learning abilities, social skills, and personalities.

On the other hand, kittens also need their littermates when they’re adopted. One of the other common misconceptions happens to be the one that argues how kittens don’t care whether or not they’re adopted together with their brothers and sisters because they forget them as soon as they grow a little older.

However, when you bring a kitten to your home, you might notice that the kitten’s scared, confused, and unable to do pretty much anything for a week or two (or however much time the kitten needs to become comfortable around you).

Bringing two kittens, littermates, to your home at the same time provides them with someone to snuggle with, sleep with, and spend time with without fearing the “big ogre who keeps bringing food and demanding attention.”

When two orphan ginger cats were found somewhere around her friend’s garden, for example, Anya Yukhtina decided to take them both. She didn’t want to separate them because she didn’t want the to go through another trauma.

She knew that the first few weeks were going to be a bit tough, but she believed that the kitties needed each other and decided to persevere.

Anya’s a producer and event manager from Moscow, Russia. She was going through a rough patch and she thought that a soft, sweet ginger cat might bring enough happiness to her everyday life to turn things around for her.

She’s been obsessed with ginger cats (and their addicting purrsonalities) and she knew that she wanted nothing more than an orange moggy. But, she wasn’t sure how to get her hands on one.

She took to Facebook (as one does) and announced to her friends that she was searching for a ginger kitten and that she would appreciate them sending one her way on the off chance that they came across one before her. But, here’s where the story takes a turn.

Anya’s father’s friend happened to uncover two ginger kittens, completely abandoned and alone, near the area where he resided. He didn’t want to adopt them, but he was searching for someone who would.

He saw Anya’s Facebook post and contacted her father to check whether Anya would be willing to take them both – but, he failed to mention that there were two kittens.

Anya’s friend went to collect the ginger kitten that was supposedly around two weeks old, and she came back with two ginger kittens that were definitely not even ten days old. What an odd turn of events, right?

Anya didn’t want to separate them and she decided to keep them both. Now, the kittens were super, super small which meant that Anya needed to take care of them, nurse them, and teach them how to do pretty much everything.

According to Anya, the kittens were happy to do whatever she wanted them to do and she didn’t go through too much trouble to get them to where they are today. Actually, among other things that Anya needed to do for the kittens, she also needed to treat them for ringworms.

Within the first three or four weeks, the kittens developed ringworms and needed extensive medication and treatment to get better. Anya washed them every two days, gave them shots of medicine, and did everything to nurse them back to health.

And, Anya named them Skinny and Fatty (even though they were purrfectly healthy). Skinny and Fatty grew happy and healthy, became BFFs, and became Anya’s source of happiness. Nowadays, the two rebellious rascals do everything together – they sleep together, eat together, and play together.

They adore running around the apartment, hopping on kitchen counters, and chasing after critters and crawling creatures. They appreciate each other’s company more than anything, and they make Anya happy about her decision to keep them together every single day.

Anya shares the brotherly friendship on her Instagram all the time, and she makes us all green with envy because Skinny and Fatty seem to have become true Instagram models. We wish Skinny and Fatty a happy and healthy life!

It is very difficult to realize that today there are too many abandoned cats in the world left to fend for themselves. To be clear, even a single neglected cat is a devastating fact, but the streets of our cities actually hide thousands of furry strays.

Some of them were, unfortunately, left by their owners who, for whatever reason, decided that they no longer can take care of them. While others were abandoned by their mothers who were probably previously abandoned by their owners, too.

Either way, stray cats are our reality, and our hearts are breaking for them and the uncertain future that awaits them. We can only do so much – which is still good – but how amazing would it be if we could rescue every single stray cat from the street?

It would be a true feline paradise, for sure. It is unfortunately impossible to achieve such a Utopia. But, small steps in that direction can be made, nevertheless.

Some cats might be fine living on the street. As long as there are benevolent people to feed them, give them occasional cuddles, and check their health, those cats are good to go. After all, living in the “wild” is in their nature. They are predisposed to seek the great outdoors.

Think about the feral cats of Istanbul. These felines live on the streets of this busy city, but somehow they are owned by everyone. They are so well treated and they basically lack nothing.

However, there are cases when small and fragile cats end up abandoned on the street, unable to take care of themselves, and without anyone to care for them as well.

Today, we are introduced to a story of a kitty named Janie whose life began with little chance of survival. But thanks to the goodness of people who found themselves in the right place at the right time, she was saved.

The staff members of the Tiny But Mighty Kitten Rescue shelter from Cornwall, Ontario, found Janie one sunny day alone on a block of hot concrete. Their founder, Melissa said how the poor kitty was barely one day old, and how she was screaming and crying to be saved.

They took her to the shelter and thoroughly examined her. They noticed she had severe burns on her back paws due to lying on an extremely hot sidewalk. Apart from tending to her burns, they noticed Janie was unusually small.

They put her on the scale which showed she weighed only 2.8 ounces, which was little even for a newly born kitten. However, such a tiny body somehow managed to contain all the feline energy possible.

Melissa said how Janie was so energetic, active, and vocal. It was as though she was already in love with life and desperately wanted to hold on to it.

The most interesting feature about Janie wasn’t her small body or her mighty personality. It was actually her very special fur with which many people worldwide fell in love.

Janie had the type of fur we refer to as “fever coat“, which is a silver dusting of fur kittens usually have when their mothers are sick or anxious during pregnancy.

Kittens don’t get to keep this special colored fur, as they mostly outgrow it over time. Melissa predicted that her silvery fur would turn black as she grows older. Until that happens, there’s nothing left to do but to feast our eyes on this beauty and her beautiful fur.

Because of her small size, Janie had to spend two weeks in an incubator to get stronger. During that time, without even knowing it, she gained the sympathy of a cat name June, who just so happened to be a new mother.

June was so eager to meet Janie that she was often found meowing outside the incubator for her to come out. And once she finally did, June didn’t hesitate for a second, and she accepted Janie as one of her own.

She licked her all over for more than 10 minutes until she prepared her to meet the rest of the crew. She snuggled Janie with other kittens and an unbreakable bond was created.

Janie’s new siblings soon accepted her, but she was especially liked by Jasmine, who immediately showed great interest in her younger sister.

As time passed, Janie and the rest of the kittens were slowly growing. Her silver coat has been gradually fading, but her fiery personality remained. We can say that Janie was like this because she was, in a way, born out of the fire (a.k.a. burning hot concrete sidewalk).

Nevertheless, one thing is certain: this adorable kitten is alive and well today thanks to the kindness that some people still have in them! All we can do is pray that the other abandoned cats will meet a similar fate as Janie’s.
