It brought me to tears to see this little guy with such horrible injuries,” she recalls. Despite his severe condition, something in his eyes spoke of resilience and an unbroken spirit.

Figaro’s injuries were serious. He required multiple reconstructive surgeries, including the removal of nearly all the teeth on one side of his mouth. The process was lengthy and stressful, but with the dedicated care of veterinarians and the love and patience of Meagan, Figaro began to heal.

When Figaro was finally discharged on February 10, 2019, Meagan brought him to her home in Queens. The first weeks required careful management: Figaro remained crated to allow proper healing, and he wore an E-collar to prevent him from touching his stitches. But even in these early days at his foster home, glimpses of his playful and affectionate nature began to appear.
The kitten who had once been overlooked and rejected by everyone else was slowly blossoming.
Within months, Figaro’s transformation was remarkable. By six months old, he had gained weight, his energy returned, and he began exploring every corner of his new home. Though he was still wary of medications—a reminder of his difficult early days—he quickly adapted to daily life with his foster family.
He became the first to the food bowl, vocalizing his excitement, and often tried to sneak bites of human food, much to Meagan’s amusement. Watching him bird-watch from windowsills or curl up on her pillow, Meagan realized that Figaro had fully embraced the safety, comfort, and love surrounding him.

Originally, Meagan’s goal had been to nurse Figaro back to health and then find him a permanent family. But as the weeks turned into months, it became clear that Figaro had already found his forever home—with her.
“He means the world to me! He represents why I rescue and is a testament that rescue works!” she says. Figaro’s journey is more than just a story of physical healing; it is a testament to the transformative power of patience, love, and compassion.
Figaro’s personality now shines in every corner of his life. He is playful, vocal, and endlessly curious. He loves exploring, playing with toys, and interacting with the humans and other cats in his home. His previous trauma has not diminished his spirit—in fact, it has made him more resilient and loving.
